Peptides & Your Skin

Have you ever heard of Peptides? What are they and why are they an important ingredient in your skin care regimen? Peptides are also called polypeptides. They are naturally occurring in our skin, but they are also found in many skin care products. Peptides are amino acids that make up certain proteins needed for our skin. Collagen is made up of 3 polypeptide chains, so when you add peptides it can stimulate your skin to make collagen. Collagen helps with firmer, younger looking skin.

Our bodies make collagen naturally, but with age, collagen production decreases, causing the skin to look less bright, even and more wrinkled. Collagen molecules are too large to absorb through the skin, taking supplements like Hush&Hush is a great way to internally receive the benefits. However, topically peptides can absorb into the skin where they can be used more effectively in the body.

Incorporating peptides into your skincare routine has many benefits. It can improve the skin barrier, which is the body’s line of defense against UV rays, bacteria, pollution, and other toxins. If you over exfoliate, smoke, or even get poor sleep you can damage the skins barrier.

Do you want to reduce wrinkles? Collagen can plump the skin, and when the skin is firmer and more plump, wrinkles & fine lines may be less visible. In addition to collagen, peptides make up elastin fibers or proteins. These fibers make our skin look firmer & taut.

Some peptides are antimicrobial which means they can kill bacteria that causes acne. Now who doesn’t want that?

Peptides penetrate the outer layer of our skin, which helps them sink deeper into our skin. They are messengers sending signals telling the cells to produce collagen & elastin. Did you know that Image skin care products have peptides in them?

One of my most favorite products with peptides in the Image Ormedic Balancing Bio-Peptide Creme. It is an organically blended biopeptide creme that delivers essential age defying nutrients & vitamins to the skin. Organic Japanese green tea, aloe vera, chamomllie & grape seed help restore & balance the skin. Great for all skin types.
